  • Eades, 2005, Prompted by the Jost and Shaw study (in press), the OSF committee of the Orthopterists' Society in December, 2005 reviewed the classification of extant Ensifera down to family level. This led to numerous changes in the classification used by this website, including discontinuation of the recognition of this family.
• Type genus:  Pteroplistes Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1873; priority for family-group names based on Pteroplistes dates from Pteroplistinae Chopard, 1936.  First use as Pteroplistidae by Chopard, 1949.
