• Scrutiny:
  • Braun, 2015, Type species considered by several authors belonging to Anisoptera. Diagnosis of Xiphidion unclear: according to original description prosternum without spines, according to other authors with spines (e.g. Harz 1969, Pinedo 1985). Assignment of several species to subgenus arbitrary. Synonym in Pitkin 1980.
• Type species:  Locusta fusca Fabricius (= Conocephalus fuscus fuscus), by subsequent designation; authority:  Rehn, J.A.G. 1905. Proc. Acad. Nat. Sci. Philad. 57:790-843
• The first family-group name based on this genus is Xiphidiini Redtenbacher, 1891.
